"With Love, Moncton Museum” - NOW ON DISPLAY! 2023-10-05
Resurgo Place is excited to present a special exhibition in celebration of the Moncton Museum’s 50th anniversary, on display until Jan. 7, 2024.
After much anticipation, “With Love, Moncton Museum” is now on display, showcasing half a century of collecting cherished artefacts and community stories. Inspired by a love letter addressed to our community, the exhibition features a variety of elements including a graphic timeline with key moments, a selection of unique artefacts, a glimpse into the world of collection management and storage, a handful of interactive displays, and more.
Adding to the excitement, the Museum's old friend from 1985, Albert the Albertosaurus, is making his grand return with help from Ontario’s Thunder Bay Museum. Another very special recall from past exhibitions, a painting by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, is made possible by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Culture and Heritage Coordinator, Lawren Campbell, describes the exhibition as “a great journey into the museum’s past. A trip down memory lane for old friends and a fun discovery for new friends.” Visitors will have the chance to discover the Museum’s key role in preserving and sharing Moncton’s history, as well as share what this milestone means to them.
“The museum came a long way from when it first opened in 1973”, states Bridget Murphy, collections and research library coordinator. “This exhibition project allowed us to reflect on how much we have grown as an institution and show gratitude to our community for their involvement.” Sophie Cormier, director of Resurgo Place, culture and heritage, encourages community members to get involved by emphasizing that “this is YOUR museum”. Suggestions, stories, events, and partnerships are always welcomed.
Exhibition designed by Skyline Atlantic and developed with financial support by the Province of New Brunswick and the City of Moncton. Special thanks to Tabufile for donation of custom shelving installation.
