Whether you are looking to rent or to buy, Moncton offers many different options, from high and low-rise apartments and condos to townhomes and single-family dwellings. You can choose to live downtown, close to restaurants and shopping, or in one of the many unique neighbourhoods near schools, parks, and other amenities.

Retail and shopping
Moncton has a strong retail sector that includes independent shops and big-box stores.
Moncton is the province’s largest retail destination.
- In the north end, the Mapleton Centre and Wheeler Park Power Centre offer a wide range of retail, grocery, and restaurant options.
- CF Champlain in neighbouring Dieppe is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest shopping malls, with more than 140 shops.
- Downtown Moncton features many independently owned stores that carry specialty items.
- Every Saturday morning, visitors to the Moncton Market will find locally grown fruits and vegetables, arts, and crafts.
Most retail outlets are open seven days a week, with Sunday hours often being shorter.
Education
As Canada’s only officially bilingual province, education is offered in both English and French.
- Anglophone East School District: offers English and French immersion curriculums
- Francophone Sud School District: offers French curriculum
Students attend schools associated with their residential district.
Schooling begins in kindergarten at the elementary level with middle school starting in Grade 6 and high school in Grade 9. Students graduate in Grade 12. The school year begins in September and ends in June with academic breaks in December and March.
Parents must register their children with the school before they can attend.
Post-secondary education
Université de Moncton, a French-language university, is the city’s largest post-secondary institution. Crandall University offers a Liberal Arts education based in the Christian faith. Moncton also has a number of community colleges that offer training in trades, technology, healthcare and the arts.

Healthcare services
Moncton has two large hospitals located in the city centre and many medical and dental clinics.
The Moncton Hospital and the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre provide patients with quality services in all areas of medical care. In addition, there are numerous walk-in and after-hours clinics that can be accessed on weekdays and weekends.
