City of Moncton selected to participate in Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance 2024-07-02

Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold was one of only 23 mayors from North America, South America, and the Caribbean selected to participate in the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance, an international consortium advancing data and artificial intelligence use to improve lives.

As part of the Alliance, the City of Moncton will receive multi-year operational and technical coaching on how to leverage data and artificial intelligence to assess needs, strengthen services, and codify policies that enshrine and spread results-based practices across all City departments.

“We have had great experiences with the Bloomberg Harvard program and we look forward to working with like-minded communities to improve our services and experiences for citizens and employees,” Mayor Arnold says. “We are currently the fastest-growing community in Canada and now is the time to leverage data to make informed decisions to focus our limited and precious resources.”

Mayor Arnold joined the other new program mayors as well as fellow international mayors and renowned data, innovation, technology, and urban policy experts for a two-day summit at Johns Hopkins University June 27-28.

“Cities that are harnessing the extraordinary amount of data out there are better positioned to understand resident needs, source innovative solutions, and lead from the front when it comes to artificial intelligence,” says James Anderson, who leads the Government Innovation program at Bloomberg Philanthropies. “The mayors of these 23 cities want to put their municipal governments in the driver’s seat when it comes to leveraging data – and the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance will help them develop the policies and practices to do just that.”

Mayor Arnold was one of only three Canadian mayors in the group, along with Mayor Rob Burton of Oakville, ON and Mayor Mark Sutcliffe of Ottawa, ON. The group also includes two mayors from the Caribbean, 10 from the United States, and eight from South America.

The Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance now includes 65 cities across 12 countries. It is delivered in partnership with the Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence (GovEx) at Johns Hopkins University, along with the Behavioral Insights Team and Public Digital.
