Order of Moncton - Léo Johnson

Compassion, solidarity and generosity are at the heart of Léo Johnson's work to help the most disadvantaged people in the Moncton area. For over 45 year, this dedicated volunteer has worked with several charitable organizations in Greater Moncton, from the House of Nazareth, where he worked for more than 30 years, to Moncton Headstart. 

Mr. Johnson is the cofounder of the Second Chance Workshop, a social enterprise created in 2013 with the mission of reducing poverty by enabling unemployed and disadvantaged people to take control of their lives and develop the necessary skills to re-enter the job market. The organization specializes in refinishing of gently used furniture by learners registered in training programs. Mr. Johnson's work has achieved great success, both socially and environmentally.

In October 2017, the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce granted the project an Environmental Excellence Award. 
Léo Johnson has been recognized many times for his boundless dedication. Among other honours, he has received the Governor General's Commemorative Medal on the 125th Anniversary of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers, and recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Club.
