Moncton To Host Solar Eclipse Festival 2024-03-12
Moncton is excited to announce EclipSol, the City’s solar eclipse festival, taking place at Bore Park on April 8 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. This festival offers a variety of activities, including safe viewing of the solar eclipse through specialized glasses provided by the City of Moncton, face painting, live music, a photo booth to capture the memory as a keepsake, and more! The solar eclipse is expected to begin in Moncton at 3:26 p.m. from the southwest direction and conclude at 5:43 p.m.
To ensure a well-informed and safe experience for all attendees, the City of Moncton is offering four Celestial Spectacle presentations on March 24 at Resurgo Place as part of the Sunday Discovery Labs. Led by Dan McLaughlin from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – New Brunswick, these sessions will provide important information on safely preparing for the eclipse experience. These presentations are included with paid admission to the museum.
“Solar eclipses are rare, making this a unique opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate this natural phenomenon,” says Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold. “We encourage residents to take advantage of the special presentations at Resurgo Place to learn more about the eclipse and how to view it safely.”
In addition to EclipSol, the temporary exhibit Lumen is featured at Resurgo Place until April 28. Visitors can explore the transformative power of light, examining its behavior under various angles and through different light sources and obstacles. The exhibition was produced by the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science.
More information about EclipSol and the Celestial Spectacles can be found on the City of Moncton website.
