In 2020, the City began developing a comprehensive Recreation Facility and Programming Master Plan. As part of the ongoing consultation to finalize the plan, the City will be hosting a number of in-person consultations between Thursday, May 12 and Thursday, May 19, 2022 intended at validating the input received thus far and providing final direction on the recreation needs in the City over the next ten years.

In 2020, the City conducted numerous public engagement exercises for this plan. This includes tools on the City’s public engagement platform (Let’s Chat Moncton) which received over 460 responses, social media polls which got nearly 600 responses, and numerous discussions directly with community groups, associations, and organizations that use our recreational facilities and/or offer recreational programming. Following the consultations, a detailed inventory of facilities and programming was completed based on growth projections for the City, which along with the input received from consultations, have identified the gaps and opportunities for recreation.

To validate this input, provide information and updates on the project, and provide an opportunity to contribute for those who have not yet done so, the City is announcing in-person consultation sessions. These sessions will be drop-in style and will be held according to the following schedule:

  • Thursday, May 12- YMCA Moncton North (main lobby, 70 Twin Oaks Drive) from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Saturday, May 14- Moncton Market (120 Westmorland Street) from 9 am to 1 pm
  • Sunday, May 15- Irishtown Nature Park from 11 am to 1 pm
  • Sunday, May 15- Centennial Park from 2 pm to 4 pm
  • Thursday, May 19- BGC Moncton (15 Everett Street) from 6 pm to 7 pm

Any resident or stakeholder who is not available or interested in attending an in-person session can view the project update on letschatmoncton.ca and provide comments in writing by emailing letschat@moncton.ca between May 12 and May 19. All residents are encouraged to register for an account on letschatmoncton.ca to ensure they receive the latest project updates and opportunities to provide input to the City on a variety of projects and initiatives.

The Recreation Master Plan, when completed, will provide a framework for the management and development of recreation facilities and programs, infrastructure, resources and investment over the next 10 years that ensures the City is planning effectively while also considering the values and needs of the community.
