Removal and relocation of trees on Assomption Boulevard 2024-10-16
Location: Four locations along Assomption Boulevard between Downing Street and Westmorland Street
Tentative start date: Oct. 17-18
Work details:
Overhead power and communication lines are being relocated from the north side to the south side of Assomption Boulevard between Downing Street and Westmorland Street as part of ongoing work to prepare for downtown redevelopment. A future phase of the project will include raising Assomption Boulevard to mitigate flooding in the area.
In order to accommodate the overhead lines and the raising of Assomption Boulevard, a total of nine trees along Assomption Boulevard must be removed. Two additional trees will be relocated to another part of Riverfront Park.
The City of Moncton recognizes the importance and benefits of trees on city streets. Our approach is to relocate trees if possible; however, certain mature trees are too large to relocate. Once the work to raise Assomption Boulevard is complete, new trees will be planted in other locations along Assomption Boulevard or in Riverfront Park to replace those that have been removed.
